how can i install firefox on a windows 7 system with no functioning browser
i have a windows 7 system and the internet explorer browser fails to open. I tried the ftp command suggestion from 2013 to download firefox but that does not appear to work any longer (my command line will not 'open' the ftp.mozilla.org site)

Download the firefox installer on whatever computer you used to write this. put it on a memory stick or external hard drive, and run it on the computer youre having trouble with.
If you can't install firefox using this method, something is seriously wrong with your system.
Perform a System File Check to fix corrupted system files Win 7, 8, 10, Vista: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833
The FTP protocol is no longer supported by Mozilla. The FTP site only works with the http(s):// protocol.
You can try to open this URL in Windows Explorer
You will have to use another computer and save the full installer to an USB stick. You can find the full version of the current Firefox release (41.0.2) in all languages and all operating systems here:
