I have Firefox installed on two machines. One is a 1920 x 1080 display and the other is 2560 x 1440. All of the sudden Firefox is mishandling some web site content on the 2560 x 1440 machine. On ESPN.com the top score tracker now has a random added horizontal scroll bar that cuts off half of the score content, making it unreadable. Everything was fine until about a week and a half ago. I thought it was a Firefox update that broke it but I've tried to troubleshooting by starting in Safe Mode, uninstalling and reinstalling, and comparing Firefox Stable to Firefox Beta. Nothing now gets rid of the annoyance. I have been forced to go back to using Google Chrome because it doesn't have the same problem. Neither do Microsoft browsers (Edge and IE). It is a Firefox bug with my high res display...the FHD machine doesn't have the problem. I also didn't upgrade any graphics drivers or anything. I prefer Firefox but does anyone have any other ideas for troubleshooting?

Do you have the "Avira Browser Safety" extension?

That extension has bee reported to cause such an issue.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: 3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

Unfortunately, I looked at both of those already. Unlike the Avira issue, this is a full-length horizontal bar that is functional...just not necessary. I have also tried the Safe Mode start and that doesn't fix the issue either. In addition, I've tried messing around with the zoom level and that doesn't have any effect....the horizontal bar is always there.

Can you attach a screenshot?

  • Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot
  • Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

You can check for issues caused by plugins.

  • set plugins to "Ask to Activate" on the about:addons page (3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Plugins)
  • plugins are not affected by Firefox Safe Mode

I attached a screenshot. Of note is that the horizontal scroll bar cuts off the text...there is no corresponding vertical scroll bar for this element. On other browsers there are no scrollbars at all and the ticker looks just fine.
