I have been using Outlook for many years (currently on my Mac with Office 2016 for Mac) and would like to continue with Outlook along with Thunderbird as a plug in if there is such an application. Can anyone advise?

Thunderbird is an application independent of Outlook. You can download it from https://www.mozilla.org/thunderbird/all/
