Troubleshooting Information?

Hi Crist...

I tryed to get to this part as you asked. So far, here is what I can see in this Mail and News Accounts troubleshooting info. s that what you mean/ask?

The only difference I see is in the new acc that I created to test (it works) that has what George said about smtp.Gmail and smtp.googlemail -- but I don't think this is the key to resolve this ongong problem with this particular acc asking for a password an coming with error.

	Incoming server Outgoing servers
ID Name Connection security Authent method Default?

account2 (pop3) pop.googlemail.com:995 SSL/TLS Normal password

               	smtp.googlemail.com:465 SSL/TLS	Normal password true

account3 (pop3) pop.gmail.com:995 SSL/TLS Normal password

Um ... the Gmail POP server is "pop.gmail.com".

I'm not aware that there even is a separate GoogleMail server. AFAIK, GoogleMail.com addresses are just aliases of Gmail.com addresses.

George

George

I just changed at the settings to pop.gmail.com - 995, instead of pop.googlemail.com - 995 ... I was asked for my passord, did it, and the same message of error keeps coming...

Thank you

Troubleshooting Information?

I suggest you try changing the authentication method to oauth2.0 and see if that flies... I does bypass most gmail rot, especially the less secure apps as Google pushed oAth2.0 as the new secure standard.

BTW Thunderbird still sets up accounts with googlemail.com as the sever name. The name is an alias for gmail.com. It does, or did, offer better comparability with some google services. But I tend to change the name to Gmail. Not sure why, I just like it like that.

Then,,,, a I did chenge the setting to no security at all to receive the message... it comes this message on my other e-mail that is to recovery

Sign-in attempt prevented You received this message because mestrejeronimo.jc@gmail.com is listed as the recovery email for mestrejeronimo@gmail.com. If mestrejeronimo@gmail.com is not your Google Account, click here to disconnect from that account and stop receiving emails.

I see what you mean about the gmail and googlemail, as I created the new acc to test if I wa off the problem, and as I deleted the old acc and install it back it comes with gmail instead of googlemail. So far, I am still with no way to solve this matter in spite of all of your help/suggestions and whatever I did trying changing, etc.

Well... I don't know why only this acc is doing it, but, there must be a scientific reason, so, I will keep trying to see if I can find the solution to get it back as it was b efore.

Thanks

Maybe this is too obvious, but nobody has yet mentioned it.

Is the password saved by Tbird and have you checked that it is correct? Tools -> Options -> Security -> Passwords -> Saved passwords

Dear all that were replying to my query, having a problem with my main email acc

As I keep trying... I just now resolved the issue.

I don't know how to tell yo what I really did to have it done, since as you see from my previous communication I was trying everything that I was suggested to do, etc.

So far... so good, the acc just now as I did again go through reading info and changing, adding, etc.... .... .... and again I did turn on my less secure apps -- as I was already told to do, and have done it but did note get it at this time, so I put it back to off again... ---

Well, dear Mozilla friends and internet users, you that share your time when others like me send a call for help.... T H A N K YOU so much!!!!! again!

I hope that anyone else with the same issue may be able to find a solution... one must be have loads of patience, and persistence... so your assistance will not be lost.

Have a happy day all!!!

I'm glad the problem is fixed. Just for completeness: Gmail considers Tbird to be a "less secure app" which requires permission to connect be given in the Google account settings. see https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en

Connection from "less secure apps" is enabled by default, but security conscious people reviewing the Google settings may turn it off and inadvertently lock out Tbird.

George

THANK YOU GEORGE!!!!!!!!!!!! it's finally done!

Gmail considers Tbird to be a "less secure app" which requires permission to connect be given in the Google account settings.

Only if you choose not to use oAuth2.0 as the authentication method.and on only if you use POP as the collection protocol.
