Is it possible, for the sake of clarity, to have a separate account page (each with it's own shortcut) for each of 2 different email accounts ?

When I open Thunderbird, both of my email accounts are shown in the left hand column. And though the names are different and the servers are different, the appearance is so similar that I have, at time, found myself working in the wrong account. I would simply like to separate the accounts so that each has it's own sign on shortcut and each appears in it's own window. Please advise if this is possible, and if so, how it can be done.

You have to create a separate profile for each mail account. See Using Multiple Profiles

You could keep all the accounts in the same profile but distinguish them with colours:
