with firefox update, missing add bookmark star and bookmark icons

After recent update; missing book mark star to add bookmarks, missing book self icon, missing three-dot icon, can't open folder under profile in trouble shooting guide, and have no bookmark icons.

I figured it out. I had to customize the tool bar by dragging over the bookmark icon. Then I had to right click on it to move it to the tool bar. After that, both the star to save icon, and I clipboard icon to see all bookmarks was back in the tool bar. But still no book self icon. oh well.

If I want the icons next to the bookmarks to have distinct icons, not the sad default gray world one, I have to use the save all tabs as bookmarks feature (right click on open browser tab (won't work if only one tab is open), and that will save open tabs to a folder, as bookmarks with nice icon, all those bookmarks will have visually distinctive icons. My vision is not that good, so it really helps being able to disambiguate in that way. we'll seeif/ how firefox responds to this issue.

Are you running the Extended Support Release of Firefox 52? What version do you have now? Hopefully you can access the Troubleshooting Information page. Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, check the Version, Update Channel and Update History for insight on the before and after versions.

If the toolbar icon of the star-book duo has gone missing, can you find it in the Customize page among the available controls?

See: Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars

Hi, thanks for following up. So I'm in sort of a odd situation. I'm currently on my work laptop, and so this morning when I opened up the browser it had been automatically updated, and I did see the new bookshelf icon in the tool bar. but there must have been a proxy/firewall issue because there was a button that said you must log in on under the tool bar, and when I signed into my firefox account, it didn't go away. and the browser would only let me go to website that were bookmarked. so I uninstalled it, and pulled down the latest approved version my by companies software repo. so that's why I have the version I have. It looks like the new version, but god knows what it is really. sorry for the confusion. my case may not be that common. But I hope some of the work arounds I found might hep others get the bookmark icons back

in customize option I did find the book mark widget, and I dragged it into the hamburger service panel. And when I clicked on it, the library opened up. but no save option. I didn't get that back will I right clicked on the widget and moved it to the tool bar.

Hmm, I'm not sure what version you have now. If you have the "Library" icon that looks like:

Then it might be the Extended Support Release of Firefox 60. In Firefox 57+, the old star+book duo was separated.

The star icon is now in the address bar. If you don't see it next to the ••• Page Actions menu icon, click the icon, then right-click Bookmark This Page and click Add to Address Bar.

The book icon is now optional, and has changed to a star in a tray:

To add that button to the toolbar, either:

(A) Use the Customize panel (Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars) to drag the icon to the desired spot on the toolbar

(B) Use the method from Bookmarks in Firefox - section entitled: How do I add the Bookmarks Menu button to the toolbar?

  • Click the "Library" button
  • Click "Bookmarks"
  • Click "Bookmarking Tools"
  • Click "Add Bookmarks Menu to Toolbar"

Hope that helps. If it applies to your Firefox.
