After update to 60.3.3 (32-bit) Thunderbird is extremely slow, especially when typing in emails.

CPU usage 10-15% while idle, but jumps to 26-27% while typing an email. Letters will appear two each second(ish), which is really frustrating. Never had a problem with thunderbird untill updating to this version. Not a problem for the first two minutes after restarting Thunderbird, but after that everything slows down. I see that the version is noted as (32 bit) , but my system is Windows Home x64. Everyt other app runns as usual.

Update to 6.4 - same problem still. Tried renaming the index-file as suggested to similar problems, but to no avail. This is frustrating as i love Thunderbird, but using it now has become almost impossible.

Help please?

It's especially when typing i notice this most. Letters come out one each second'ish.

I've had this problem for quite some time. Long before 60.4. I'm also running the 64-bit version. Windows 10'. However, after a while it speeds back up to normal. Then after a bit it slows down again. This happens with no other apps running on my PC.

I have never experienced this behavior with any other app on my PC.

In my opinion Thunderbird is the best email client out there bar none. I just wish this problem could be resolved.

Hi Bodoaction, If you restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled, does the problem still occur? Go to Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

  • If the problem does not occur, then you can disable your extensions one-by-one until you find out which one is causing the problem.
  • If the problem still occurs, we'll need some more info about your Thunderbird setup.
