i've already tried all of the fixes stated here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cant-download-or-save-files and i've tried logging out my mozilla account and downloading, i've tried starting firefox in safe mode without any add-ons, i've tried pretty much everything i can think of. no matter what the download fails and a 0kb file is created instead. when i try to download a webpage i get a 0kb html file and a folder containing all the contents of the html file, also i can download images perfectly fine even though it says they fail. i've tried downloading multiple types of files and it's not just webpages, .zip files fail, .exe files fail, everything that isn't a photo fails. the only other thing i can think of is .pdf files do a similar thing to html files, where a 0kb .pdf is created and a .pdf.part file is created the size of the actual pdf. also i've tried downloading using other browsers (excluding chrome, because it crashes my pc on startup) and they've worked perfectly fine, firefox and firefox nightly are the only programs having this issue.

hi, is your device/account somehow protected by windows parental controls?

the problem you're seeing is likely https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1586228 which is currently under investigation...

Is this with many websites, some, a few?

As a test, disable your protection programs. Is the problem still there?

This download manager works separately from the browser. The browser tells it what to download, and off it goes.

http://www.freedownloadmanager.org It is a powerful modern download accelerator and organizer for Windows and Mac.

Note that you use an unstable Nightly build (71.0a1) that can get broken at any time. In such a case it might take a few days to fix possible regressions, so make sure you have a stable Firefox release version installed that you can use as a fallback.

I stated in .y post that this is a problem for both nightly and the stable build

Use Internet Download manager or check about:preferences#general

goto Setting > general > download then choose ask me Always ask Where to save file

unfortunately using a download manager seems to be the only option. it's not really the solution i was looking for, but it's better than having to use microsoft edge whenever i want to download something.

I have the exact same problem, my downloads fail instantly; creating a 0KB file and a PART file of varying size. I tried safe mode and I tried the solutions from this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/cant-download-or-save-files I've tried downloading a new version of flash player as suggested in a different thread: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1220037 But it still doesn't work. Saving pictures still works though, I saved this picture I took with gyazo from firefox and it saved the picture without a problem. I've attached a picture to show what it looks like. The flashplayer was downloaded with chrome.

I removed myself from the family, and even restarted my pc but the downloads still fail. So I doubt it was parental controls, also I started having the problem recently, I've used firefox since about November last year and it worked without an issue, I haven't done anything to firefox since then.

I had the same problem as well and I still can't find the cause of this issue.

It's not parental control since I don't have anything in family group at all.

I tried reinstalling by right clicking "Run as administrator", but I still fail. Kindly advice as this is frustrating.

My only current solution now is to use Google Chrome to do the downloads instead.
