Hi All, I have been using Firefox for many years. Recently microphone did not work in my laptop. As part of service they fixed hardware issue and installed windows 10. Then I tried to connect with Google Meet or WebEx, It seems camera and microphone audio don't seem to work as I expect. In screen, I see the message camera is starting and it stays there.

I am able to connect with other browsers. We did try several things. We couldn't find it.

Only one application is using camera at a time Browser asks permission to allow access to microphone and camera. Permissions in Privacy and Security also looks fine Sometimes windows defender asks for permission. There also it seems to be fine. Tried Firefox reinstall also. But Firefox somehow loads earlier settings. In other laptops Firefox works fine.

I am just wondering what could be root cause for this issue. Some settings need be done in Windows 10, defender or firefox as per my understanding

I involve in online teaching. Hence camera and microphone are important for me.

would appreciate your suggestions in trouble shooting.

Can you click in the area of the red circle and post a pic like mine of your browser? see screenshot

I can reproduce your error if I do not allow my camera. see screenshot

I have already checked these options. It looks fine. I have attached privacy settings as well. In windows firewall also it looks fine. May be I have to install different versions of firewall and see how it looks. Is there way to look into firefox config flags.

Thanks for your reply

Create another windows account, then login and open Firefox, but do not sign into the Firefox account and test it.

When I tried using Win10, I did get a Windows Defender pop up. Did you also get the pop up warning?

I created another user with admin rights. I got same error. But when I tried with other browser it works. Hence we can exclude user account from potential causes.

Yes I did get same popup and gave allow permission. In chrome also I got pop up then it worked fine. I remember in one of the trial and errors in firefox I got video for a few moments. But I couldn't recollect the context and reproduce. In defender settings also I added firefox. Still I get same error.

I have to try to install firefox fresh. Each time it takes settings from previous installation. Not sure we could find logs somewhere for this error. My guess is some permission or blocking issue

Okay. Back to your normal account, did you ever try safe mode?

I tried with external USB microphone. It works in firefox and other browsers. But built in camera and micro phone doesn't work in firefox.

I am yet to try safe mode option. Let me check.

Thanks for your help
