BOOKMARKS>>>> Please help..... is exporting the only way to save?
So, I got a virus from the internet. It was devastating that I couldn't access Firefox online help to figure out how to save my bookmarks. 1. Why couldn't the HELP function pop up WITHOUT going online. THAT really sucked.
Now, 2. I've lost TONS of bookmarks. I'm hoping that somewhere it got saved without me having to have to export them. If not, why not? Internet Explorer does... why can't Firefox?
So, I have complaints on two fronts: the HELP function and the BOOKMARK function. I'm a teacher and bookmarking is essential. Now, since they weren't saved in my backup files, I've probably lost them because of some ass who sent the virus and because Firefox didn't think that automatically SAVING bookmarks is something they should have put in their programming.
I hope this changes. If I'm wrong, PLEASE let me know where all of them could be. Thank you.

Hello there.
Hopefully this support article is what you need:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles
The profile folder is where everything that's relative to you (that's bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, preferences, add-ons, etc.) is stored. You can simply back that folder up to somewhere and put it back on another computer, and you'll be porting your whole Firefox experience. It's very handy if, for example, you need to format your hard drive. If this folder is erased, there is no way to get any info back, unless you were using some sort of online synchronization service (like Firefox Sync or Foxmarks), which is probably not the case.
If your profile is still there and, for whatever reason, you can't seem to access it, see this:
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles
Again, your whole info is stored in your profile folder. This folder is as safe as your operating system will let it be. It takes advantage of the same kind of security any other browser takes (including Internet Explorer). This folder can be, like any other file in your computer, deleted manually, either with or without overriding security measures put forth by your operating system or by your antivirus/firewall/security suite. And as any file that can be deleted manually, it can also be deleted by malicious software. Hopefully that was not the case.
If you have any questions at all, feel free to ask. I have this topic on an email subscription (and hopefully the forum will send me an email if you reply).
You can make a copy of the JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder and the file places.sqlite in the Firefox Profile Folder
