msn continually overwites the home page setting after setting google using about:config

running firefox 3.6.8 on xp pro on thinkpad. MSN keeps overwiting the home page setting thus not allowing me to change the default home page even thru about:config. his appears browser.startup.homepage;http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&pver=6&ar=msnhome
