I would like to set a default size and screen position for the Firefox window, so that each time I start Firefox, it opens the same size. Is there a setting for that?

Not that I know of.
There is a very old bug that the width and height command line switches do not work.

Firefox will use the settings as last saved in localstore.rdf in the Firefox Profile Folder

The relevant settings are in this section in localstore.rdf :

RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#main-window"
