have firefox 3.6.12 for Mac. Want a different background color-very pale, not white (have trouble seeing dark backgrounds)-only a few color choices are given in preferences

I need a pale background color, off-white, but I can only get white or a blue or cream color--both are too bright--see no way of getting more colors. The white background is too harsh.

If you need to adjust the background color on websites then look at:

You can fine tune color values directly on the about:config page, open that page via the location bar like a website.
