Tried installing 4.0, message said system won't support, but lost 3.6

I tried installing 4.0, but when I tried to open it I got a message that my system would not support it. But when I looked at my Applications folder, I saw 4.0 had replaced 3.6. Now I can't open Firefox. I am on a Mac running 10.4.11--proceesor is 400 MHz PowerPC G4. How can I get 3.6 back, with all my savid bookmarks?

Thank you. I successfully re-installed 3.6, and even have all my Bookmarks.
