It is used for the HTML5 Geolocation API. This info is only shared with websites after you approve access. Mozilla does not use the data in any other form.

Opera Mini is not a web browser. It is a proxy based browser that uses a proprietary compression method on the web pages you view. Since it is proxy based Opera gets to see every page you visit.

thx, that helps explain a few things i assume its like the link says, if i want to order pizza it can help direct me quicker as it will chuck up links relevent to my location though on the mobile browser its fine gps which is down to a few metres not just a rough area that can pinpoint my house number, also on the mobile browser there isnt a tools menu to drop down to page info so i cant block " share location" from my phone..and ta for the opera info i never knew that :)

To disable Geolocation in Firefox moible one would need to type about:config in the address bar, use the filter to find geo.enabled and set it to false.

Though as mentioned above Firefox will not share your location without your approval.

thanx for ur help, the about config thing works with the pc browser but with the android app for firefox an about:config search in the address bar just gives u an option to search with google and gives u various listings of what it is and doesnt take you to the there be dragons here ill be careful i promise tab....if as u say ff wont share my location with 3rd partys without actually asking permission from myself i guess its better than mini opera looking at everything i do. appreciate ur time in answering thx :)
