Why do firefox open hundreds of tabs every time I download a zipfile

every time I download a zipfile and it finishes Firefox without any reason starts and open tabs like crazy it goes on for hundreds or even thousand of tabs if I don´t stop it

You get that problem if you select the Firefox program to handle a file if you get an "open with" dialog.
