How do I get Firefox to remember my passwords on websites?

When I go to Tool>options>security, the box that says "remember passwords for sites" is greyed out. Is that the right way to set the remember passwords function and if so, why is it greyed out?

You might been browsing in private mode. Try Shift+Ctrl+P or Tools/Private mode.
