1. I am running 64bit linux Mint release 14 Nadia. Firefox version 19 (firefox for mint version 1.0) I have the usual suite of plugins installed.

2. Firefox will not play sounds when viewing swf files on youtube, or anywhere else either. 3. Alsa utils, and Gstreamer will play sounds, but only if I first set the audio device to use. The default audio device (whatever it is) does not work. 4. Audacity will also play sounds, but again only if I set the default audio device. 5. PulseAudio is running, and i think is the default device. However alsa can play through pulseaudio and so can audacity. 6. I have two audio 'cards' one on the mobo, and one on the display adapter. I am only trying to use the one on the mobo. here is the inxi output: Audio: Card-1: NVIDIA High Definition Audio Controller driver: snd_hda_intel bus-ID: 01:00.1 Sound: ALSA ver: 1.0.24

Card-2: Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller driver: snd_hda_intel bus-ID: 00:1b.

notice that the intel devices are on the 'second' card.

Note that you have two Flash plugins installed.

  1. Shockwave Flash 10.1 r999.Gnash 0.8.10, the GNU SWF Player. Copyright (C) 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 Free Software Foundation, Inc. Gnash comes with NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by law. You may redistribute copies of Gnash under the terms of the GNU General Public License. For more information about Gnash, see http://www.gnu.org/software/gnash. Compatible Shockwave Flash 10.1 r999.
  2. Shockwave Flash 11.0 r1

So try to uninstall the Gnash plugin and update the Flash plugin to the latest 11.2 version.
