Firefox hangs - accessing blogs
I'm using the latest release of Firefox for my desktop (25.0.1), on a Windows 7 environment.
As of today firefox is hanging when I try to access posts (blogs) that were working yesterday.
I looked at old posts but none of their advise work. IE, Chrome, etc. etc. works just fine.

One of the lesser known workarounds for hangs is related to Flash media, which can be used extensively on some blogs. Please disable the Flash Player plugin's protected mode feature. See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox? For more step-by-step instructions, see also: this post.
Please report back on degree of progress making that change and exiting/restarting Firefox.
The blogs that I am accessing do not have flash media. Nor do I have Flash player installed on my laptop. It was definite something that was added with the latest release of FF as the night before (2 days ago) I was able to access the same blog with no problem. No changes to the blog and like I said no other browser has the problem, ONLY FF and only using Windows.
Unchecking the option of "Use Hardware Acceleration when available" as suggested in other posts did not help.
I will try to install Flash Player and see if that works, but I doubt since like I said I don't have it installed.
Thanks
More updates: Following Adobe 'Installation Problems on Windows", I uninstalled an old flash player plugin that I had and re-installed the latest version of the flash plugin. I can verify that was installed: in the 'installed programs'. The flash player 11 plugin (11.9.900.152).
Well, this made Firefox UNUSABLE! I cannot even start a page (ANY page). FF does not respond.
Could it be a java script issue? After waiting for a long period of time (more than 5 minutes) trying to access the page that adobe displays after a successful installation, FF puts a windows message with the title, Warning unresponsive script. Nothing else.
The only way to make FF usable again is to reboot my laptop but then I'm back to my old problem.. .unable to access certain WordPress blogs, that as I said before, I was able to access 2 days before.
Thanks
Hi ladyopita, your "More System Details" shows that you do have the Flash player installed (the plugin is called "Shockwave Flash").
If you don't think you need it, you could disable it by setting it to "Never Activate" on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins.
Our posts crossed, please disable the "protected mode" of the Flash Player plugin using the link in my earlier post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/978788#answer-505679
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
- Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
- Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
- Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
