I don't know if Thunderbird questions can be answered here. If they can, I would like to know if someone could suggest a solution to the "icon in e-mail" issue -- where a greyed-out icon suggesting two broken pieces appears in the e-mail at the beginning of the e-mail. I use Thunderbird 24.4.0. I don't see any settings for HTML in Tools>Options>Display.

This is the correct place to ask Thunderbird related questions.

Can you post a screenshot of your problem?

Here's a scan of a screenshot I made -- minus the e-mail addresses. The bracket on the left side shows where the icon appeared. The e-mail doesn't show the icon. The screenshot of the email with the icon in the upper-left corner contains e-mail addresses-- of the sender and myself.

Where, in Thunderbird, would there be an option to allow jpg's or HTML to display?

I can't see anything from your scans. Can't you just post images?

Anyway, try View - Message Body As - Original HTML.

Press Alt or F10 in case the menu bar is hidden.
