It's honestly driving me up a wall.

I reinstall and reinstall and reinstall. How many times to do I have to reinstall firefox & flash, for them to actually work correctly?

I HATE google chrome. I HATE it SO SO much. But you know what? Flash works in Google Chrome. I don't want to use any browser besides FireFox. I truly do not.

Why do I have to use Chrome to pretty much do everything?

I apologize if I sound angry. But I'm just so frustrated.

Every time, every website tells me flash isn't up to date or that I don't know have flash installed. When I will very clearly have the most up to date flash.

Hello, as you may know, Flash will be discontinued by December 2020, and will not be allowed to run in any browser come that time. In the mean time, let's try troubleshooting your flash problems!

As I said in my post, my flash is up to date.

The little block will be up there and say my flash is enabled and what not. Then when I click on a page that requires flash, I get the message "This content requires the Adobe Flash Player. Get Flash".

I don't even get to the point of it crashing because it never actually works to begin with.

Does this problem happen on every site?

Could you check my test page here and let me know what you see from the initial checking (no button click required) and when you click the button:

https://www.jeffersonscher.com/res/plugins.html

You may also need to give permission and reload and try again. (Why do I have to click to activate plugins?)

Is this what you're looking for ?

  • Name (Version): Shockwave Flash (28.0.0.126)
    Description: Shockwave Flash 28.0 r0
    File name: NPSWF64_28_0_0_126.dll

I have it set to always allow. So far it is broken on sites like Gaiaonline.com and Xfinity.com

Okay, that tells me sites can see Flash if they ask about it normally. One reason some sites might think you don't have Flash is if scripts do not run properly. And that could be due to content blockers.

You could start your investigation here:

(1) Built-in Tracking Protection feature (especially in private windows).

Do you see a shield icon toward the left end of the toolbar when this problem hits? More info on how to use the shield to manage blocking: What happened to Tracking Protection?.

(2) Content blocking extensions such as Adblock Plus, Blur, Disconnect, Ghostery, NoScript, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin or uMatrix.

Some of these provide toolbar buttons to manage blocked content in a page.

You can view, disable, and often configure or remove extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
  • type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return

In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything that could be blocking content from other sites ("third party" content)? If in doubt, disable.

Any improvement?

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block (wanted) content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Ghostery, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block (wanted) content.

  • make sure your extensions and filters are updated to the latest version

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
