Downloading fire, or dragging images from Firefox on the desktop, file are saved without file extension. I have seen this problem has been submitted several times and dismissed blaming the server or registry or other things. No. It's a Firefox bug. The filename sent by the server is correct, registry is not implicated (I'm on a Mac, and yes, I have the "show extension" option on). It's just an annoying Firefox bug that needs to be fixed. Thank you :-)

A possible workaround is to save the image via the right-click context menu or "Tools -> Page Info -> Media" if dragging isn't working properly.

Thank you, I know. But I just hope that Firefox will fix the problem, quite annoying.

It is fixed in Firefox 58, so you only need to wait one more day until Firefox 58 gets released.
