Firefox and Thunderbird have both started running very slow while other browsers work normally.
Earlier today, Firefox and Thunderbird both started running extremely slow or not responding at all. Chrome is working normally. When opened, Firefox seems to load my home page ok, but then is unable to load any other pages and just spins forever. I restarted Firefox in safe mode and it was able to load a couple of web pages, but very slowly. I refreshed Firefox and it did not change anything. I tried safe mode again and that time it did not help at all.
Sometimes when I close Firefox it seems to close normally but then a little bit later a Mozilla crash report box pops up.
I tried to include the copy-paste of the troubleshooting information from Firefox at the end of this post, but the page does not have enough room. The "automatically add" button does not seem to be working, likely because I'm having to use Chrome to post this.
Thunderbird, similarly to Firefox, opens just find but spins endlessly and is unable to connect to my email (gmail).
System information: Firefox 61.0 (64 bit) (checking for updates also just spinning endlessly) Thunderbird 52.8.0 (32 bit) Windows 10 Avast anti-virus with HTTPS scanning disabled.
Here's a paste of one of the crash reports generated. The one thing I notice is that is lists my build architecture as amd64 while my system is Intel (i7 5820k CPU). Not sure if that's relevant.

shutdownhang means that something in Firefox is not closing properly.
In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>.
Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.
The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.
Using your mouse, mark the most resent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.
For more help on crash reports, see; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-crashes-asking-support +++++++++++++++++++++++ If you can't get Firefox to open, you will have to do this the hard way.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozillacrashreporter Open the file browser / explorer on your computer. Note: You may have to enable Show Hidden Folders / Files. Enter this in the address bar;
Windows: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win 7/Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win XP/2000: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted
Mac OS: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Crash Reports/submitted Linux: /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/submitted
Copy the most recent 5-7 File Names in the folder. Post the information in the reply box.
I didn't realize that you only needed the report numbers. Here are 3 that I know were connected to my current problem. Note that only sometimes do I get a crash report, but the slow loading (or not loading) of websites is relatively consistent regardless.

I'm not sure if this helps, but in the interim I actually got a single tab up and running without any trouble (running a Twitch stream even). But if I attempt to load any other page in Firefox, the stream hangs up. Loading pages in Chrome does not cause this problem.
Hi, as Fred mentioned Shutdown/Hangs, the information does no good for trouble shooting the issue.
uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files , C:\Program Files(x86) & C:\ProgramData Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :
- https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/export-firefox-bookmarks-to-backup-or-transfer
Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 61.0.0 with a Full Version Installer
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.
As for Thunderbird it would be best that you asked the question in their forum https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/thunderbird
That is going to take me some time to get all done, I'll try it tonight and see if it helps.
