Migrated computers, installed the latest version of Thunderbird (60.0), reinstalled LIghtning extension. Can't for the life of me figure out how you get into calendar mode. No calendar icon, no calendar pane, none of the menu options off of the right hand side 3 bar icon seem to take you there. I see several other people in the Forum had the same problem and never got it answered. One guy fixed it by reverting to an earlier version of Thunderbird, but that's a bandaid, not a solution.

Personally I would run an older version for a coup!e weeks. I usually wait until is see version x.2 or x.3 come out but I am not big on being an early adopter

On the other hand ... Calendar issues "should" be easy to resolve, because there is a doc at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/calendar-updates-issues-thunderbird

Please tell us if that does not help you

Is lightning really installed? Go to the add on tab and click Extensions. Is Lightning listed? Is it enabled?

You're right, and I misspoke. It's only Provider (to get bidirectional access to Google calendar) that I have installed. I was following the instructions but couldn't see any calendar icon or command to work with.

Lightning could not be installed; apparently even the latest version is incompatible with 60.0. So, I guess there is no calendar functionality for this version of Thunderbird. The press releases seem to indicate it would be built in, but it's nowhere to be found.

I have not upgraded to v60 yet. I like for the new release bugs to get worked out first. There have been a few reports of add on problems. How are you trying to install it? If you enter lightning in the search box on the extension page can you install it from there?

From the 3 line menu: Options->Addons->search box that says "Search on Addons. thunderbird.net"-> enter LIghtning in Search box-> get to lightning page -> Lightning is greyed out. Can also get around this page and force a download of Lightning amidst many warnings, at which point you get an error message that it's incompatible with this version of Thunderbird and refuses to install. So, I'm guessing this is a bug of some sort that still needs to be worked out.

Wow, the instructions at this url, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/calendar-updates-issues-thunderbird, under this heading, "https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/calendar-updates-issues-thunderbird" worked! I got everything back splendidly. Thanks, Wayne!
