stuck old invalid email address
Hi all at the support community I have recently re-opened a Thunderbird account as I find I now need an extra email account. But Thunderbird is still showing my old invalid email address (tektron87@blueyonder.co.uk) as the default setting. This account was closed by my original server (Virgin Media) when I moved home to an area not supported by Virgin Media and had to find an alternative internet provider. I have now opened a second profile in Thunderbird with a new email address (gerskin2000@yahoo.co.uk). Unfortunately, Thunderbird is still defaulting to my old (tektron87@blueyonder.co.uk) which is now rapidly filling up with spam messages. I really like Thunderbird, so is there any way to get rid of this pesky old default address and leave me with my new profile (gerskin2000@yahoo.co.uk) as the new - and only - default address when I open Thunderbird? Hope you can help. Thanks George

There is no such thing as a Thunderbird account. Thunderbird is an application, so it does neither provide email addresses, nor the service to transmit emails. But Thunderbird can be used with your existing email address and service provider to send, receive, sort and search your email messages.

This is the reason why it's not recommended to use the email service offered by your Internet service provider. You may loose your email when moving to a different place.

If you still receive messages on this account, then it may be old, but not invalid. It must still be active as far as Virgin Media is concerned.

Most likely you added your new Yahoo email to Thunderbird, but within the existing profile. So now you do have two email addresses within the same profile.

The term 'profile' is not correct in this context, it's really an existing email address or an email account you set up within Thunderbird. Terminology matters. Without using proper terminology it's hard to communicate and solve problems.
If you're certain there is no mail to be kept in the old account it can be deleted.
At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button > Account Settings Select the account to be deleted in the left pane. Select 'Remove Account' from the 'Account Action' drop-down menu at the bottom.
You should also delete the account with Virgin Media.
If you don't want to become a spam magnet you'd better not post your full email address to a public forum.
