Hi All. I have had to buy a new pc as my old one died. I have updated the new new pc and am currently downloading all my emails but wondered if the all the separate folders i had on my old pc ( in the firebird email app ) will be copied as well or have i lost them? Also if they are not downloadable i still have the hard drives so would they be on there somewhere ? Thanks for any help

If old pc used an imap mail account to access and download emails then all emails and folders will also be stored on the server.

If you are using an imap mail account on new computer then you may need to 'Subscribe' to see folders that are visible on the server.

  • In Folder Pane, right click on the imap mail account name folder
  • select 'Subscribe'
  • Select all folders you want to see
  • click on 'Subscribe'
  • click on 'OK'

If on old computer you used a Pop mail account then you can import the mbox files into the 'Local Folders' mail account to see emails. If you used the default location to store profiles then you would find them typically in this location: C://Users/User name/Appdata/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/Mail/pop account name folder.

Sometimes it's quicker to manually copy all the mbox files (no extension) which have same name as folders and also any folders with a .sbd extension, to an external drive. Then copy/paste them into the new computer. Exit Thunderbird first. Access: C://Users/User name/Appdata/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/Mail/'Local Folders' folder This 'Local Folders' folder is where you paste the copied mbox files and *.sbd folders.
