You can check if you have write permission for this registry key:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reporter\SubmitCrashReport
Many thanks, cor-el, for that!
However, it doesn't resolve the issue, since I do in fact have write permission for that registry key (& Crash Reporter in the application.ini file is Enabled).
Curiously, the tick in the "Submit crash reports" box in the Options-Advanced-General dialogue disappears as soon as the Options dialogue is closed (i.e. without a Firefox restart).
Does it work if you change the registry key directly from 0 to 1 ?
You may have security software that is protecting that registry key.
Thanks for the suggestion, cor-el, but all the keys under SubmitCrashReport are set at 1 and my email address is correctly shown, yet STILL the tick box resolutely refuses to remain ticked when closed - go figure!
You can check if you have a file crashreporter.ini in the Crash Reports folder.
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\ %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\crashreporter.ini
Yes, the same thing happens to me ... POS
It works fine fine on my Toshiba Tecra Laptop.
However, it does not work on my DELL E6400 Laptop ... SIGH
In both cases, my Laptops reports the following in the crashreport.ini files "Crash reports are no longer being accepted for this version. Please consider upgrading to a supported version."
Versions for both systems are Firefox 5.0.1
This Problem exists in Mac OSX Firefox 7.0.1 also, but is worse. The tick box will not remain ticked once I've closed the Options-Advanced-General. I don't have to restart for the tick box to disappear, I just close Preference, reopen Preferences, and the tick box is gone. Two related problems might be 1) crashreporter.app is missing, which I've also reported. 2) Crashes are created, they seem to be sent to Mozilla, but actually do not get sent from my Mac.
