why have many of my add-ons and extensions been disabled after switching to firefox 6
Many of my add-ons and extensions have been disabled after switching to Firefox 6. None of the Java extensions can be used; my Microsoft frame is disabled; my media player is gone; and my google toolbar with all of my important bookmarks is missing. How can Firefox 6 be considered an "upgrade"? How can I 'retrieve Firefox 4 or 5'?--there's no point in using a browser that limits so many necessary add-on sites!

Dear mbrubeck,
Thank you for your attention to my grievances.
This afternoon my Google toolbar mysteriously reappeared, even though Ff 6 is allegedly incompatible with that toolbar and its options. I am thankful, of course, but I do not understand this sudden, strange rehabilitation.
However, my Java addons and DivX extensions are still disabled, as is the Free Download Manager.
Are the Mozilla Firefox CEOs and other bureaucrats as typical as those governing AT&T?!? Isn't it time for Ff's technical staff to run the show and prevent the Poo Bahs from crippling a fine browser?
Updates become downgrades when they make arbitrary and unreflective changes.
Thank you, mbrubeck, for your consideration.

Hi, mhaoo7--
Tried your plugins updating suggestion; no go.
Then tried updating to FF7. This time the Yahoo! toolbar was no longer compatible with FF.
Scoured sites discussing problems with versions 6 & 7 and decided to retire to version 3.6.19.
Now both Google and Yahoo! toolbars are re-installed and working....Only deficit may be that FF no longer supports or soon will not support this version.
I have stashed all of my necessary bookmarks on Google's toolbar; I like its drop-down menu as it doesn't change the page/window I'm in the process of using; I don't want to see that menu listed separately in a new window (too chaotic).
Same for the Google dictionary and Thesaurus, which are straightforward and easy to use, again requiring nothing more complicated than a drop-down menu to search for words and concepts.
--I checked Firefox 6 and 7's Dictionary/Thesaurus options but unfortunately found none.
So if Firefox continues to upgrade with diminished returns, I'll likely have to go to Google Chrome. Would rather not do that. Maybe I can keep FF 3.6.19 without incurring nasty repercussions. Hope so. Have enjoyed being with Firefox for a few years.
Thank you for your attention. marlem388

Hello, mha007,
Thank you for bearing with me. I followed your advice and now feel pretty comfortable with FF6.
Thanks for suggesting the extension options. It took a while to get through them and find what I needed, but once I did, they worked well and overcame the disabilities in FF6.
Ditto for Java: found their site thanks to the URL you provided; updated through the Java window instead of through FF (as Java cautioned).
Only remaining problem was Integrating G mail into FF6. I made a donation but was told that neither of my e-mail addresses--which I had relied on for several years--were valid! Really frustrating.
...So could not get the IG mail into FF6 through the addon site but clicked on my original G mail account and bookmarked it. What a smart move! Finally. So now it's easily accessible.
O but this all took quite a bit of time. Hope Firefox will not be updating as strenuously next time.
Thank you for persisting in your efforts, mha007. marlem388
lol @ persisting :-p

Thanks again, mha007--
Went to your recorded link and saw the Bookmark Favicon Changer described there. Interesting idea but don't think I need it now; will keep it in mind for possible future customizing.
How thoughtful of you to offer the link!
