How can I look into my history going back to August? I can only go back to September - please advise. Thanks!

I am trying to look up a site that I would have looked up in August (maybe even July). I used the History bar on the top left but that only went back to September. Is it possible to go back further? It is for a business if that helps (photographer/artist).

We're both on 8.0.1 I'm on Windows 7 and your on Mac OS X 10.5 and my history goes back to July by month, and then older than 6 months. If you change the View in the History sidebar to View by Date.

in about:config, I have places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages set to 37498 which even though it says user set seems to be the default.

The best place to look would be the Library list but the History list has already told you history is not available for those dates. In the History menu you can see additional columns with more information but it is summarized so you will not see exact dates or times. The important columns for history are: "Name", "Location", "Visit Date", "Visit Count" you probably want to sort on Visit Date, and search on the domain or sitename.
