i use add ons like forecast fox which i liked at the bottom of Firefox

now they have removed and i have been relegated to use some stupid add on to replace the add on bar

it seems like FF is trying to emulate Chrome which also does not have an add on bar

so, is there anyway to display items at the bottom anymore, what gives?

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.

Also I've repeated twice that you can install the add-ons listed above if you didn't like the Australis design.

Plus they broke Forecastfox at the same time!

A little searching will go a long way ;)

From the developer's addon page:

Install version 2.2.4 from this link:
https://static.getforecastfox.com/downloads/forecastfox-latest.xpi Though unless you've moved it from the add-on bar, it won't appear unless you also install this addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/the-addon-bar

Thanks for leading me to the Promised Land, Moses! When I did a search for Forecastfox, I was told it would not work in FF29. Looks like Mozilla is really screwing the pooch lately. Anyway, thanks again; this will hold me until I can find out how to re-install FF28 and get away from this abortion called FF29.

To clear things up, Mozilla isn't responsible for add-ons not being compatible with the latest version. It's up to the developer to be sure that their add-on is compatible with 29 and later versions. If you find another extension that isn't compatible with 29 or later versions, you should contact the developer directly.

P.S. If you don't like the new Australis look, you can revert back to the view before Australis using the Classic Theme Restorer addon

You know there's extensions that restore the Addon bar right? Like I said above, a little searching will go a long way

its not the same, this version is the worst of FF yet!

I've provided alternatives for you to use but it's up to you whether or not to use them. Feel free to use the old unsupported and insecure versions of Firefox. Please however remember that puts your system and personal data at an increased risk. You may then wish to mitigate that by having well rehearsed bare metal restore strategies or using a virtual machine.

No, HistoryWriter, you UPGRADED to FF28! ;)

Moses, I tried your suggestions vis-a-vis the Addon Bar Addon (say that 10 times real fast) and the Forecastfox 2.2.4. It worked - for about 30 seconds. As soon as you go to do something else in FF29, the Addon Bar spits out what you put in there! It was a good suggestion but just didn't work for me. Upgrading to the stable FF28 fixed all the problems I had with the FF29 Beta product they released (or is it an Alpha product - it acts like one at times).

i fear FF is trying to be more like Chrome, not a good sign for guys like me who liked the differences between the two :(

Firefox isn't trying to be like anybody. Sure, cosmetically they look similar but inside the application, the JS rendering engines are different, etc, etc.

romad,

Ah, damn. Seems like the Add-on bar might be faulty...You might want to contact the developer about that.

then why eliminate the add on bar? that was one of the discerning differences between the two i liked, others as well. it sure as hell seems they are trying to emulate Chrome to me

again, I'll repeat it for about the 4th time, if they are not trying to emulate Chrome then why do away with one of the biggest differences between the two? and the add ons are buggy to say the least, they really do not work.

more options

I'd do that, Moses, but it was really to be a stop gap until I could get FF28 re-installed. Now that I have, there isn't any urgency. Hopefully, Mozilla will learn from this giant blunder of theirs and FF30 will revert to the FF28 interface.

Note that using Firefox 28.0 is not the safest thing to do as many security fixes are in Fx 29.0 that are not in 28.0 as it is not supported.

And "the check is in the mail". Mozilla can release fixes for them without ruining the entire application as they did with FF29.
