My friend and I tried to test Firefox's Hello feature but we were unsuccessful.

I could "Start a Conversation", send him the link address. He could click on the link and got a Hello window which had the "JOIN" option. He had to disable the Block Flash extension before it worked. The strange thing is that he got a message saying that "he was the first one to enter the conversation"....wasn't I in the conversation at this point first?

At my end I got nothing telling me to Join or Talk. I never got a window of his video transmission. Nothing I did at my end would ever allow us to talk...nothing was being transmitted between us. My microphone was set to "ALWAYS SHARE" and I do not have a camera.

I did a REFRESH of Firefox to get rid of extensions, shut off my firewall, eliminated my router, but nothing made any difference....we could not talk.

The Hello icon, the smiley face, did turn blue when he joined the conversion and turned dark when he clicked LEAVE. At what point should we be able to talk? As soon as he JOINS?

We are using Firefox 35.0.1 I am using Windows XP service pack 3 and he is using Windows 7

The next day we tried again and when he Joined, he got a message saying "something went wrong". No link that time.

Any ideas that might get Hello working for us?

Suggestions...

There should be positive feedback to tell each side of the conversation that now we can talk. Maybe both ends should have a Join button to click. Maybe a STATUS button to tell us what's what.

I would like to see a tutorial showing 2 windows where one user creates the

link and the other user JOINS the conversion. Show each stage of the process so that we know what we should see in our testing and when is the link is successful so we can talk. Right now I, as the link creator, am wondering if there is something else I need to do to activate the conversion because nothing is working once he joins.

I am the one who posted the original question and I just upgraded to version 37 of Firefox. HELLO now works properly. Problem solved.

Do you happen to be in private browsing mode? There was a bug prior to FF 36 where we'd let you access the Hello button, but wouldn't display the small window for the conversation.

I would also suggest upgrading to the latest 36 build as there's a few other Hello bugs fixed that should help you.

There's a video that's not quite a tutorial, but shows you the actions you need to join at both ends here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEPq4xFGzG0

(the example is in the middle around 20 seconds from the start).

When Standard8 mentioned Private mode I changed the Privacy setting from Custom to "Always Remember History". My friend did the same. When I started a new link for Hello we could not communicate.

But when he Clicked on "START A CONVERSATION" and clicked on "COPY LINK", his camera lit up. When I received his email giving me the Hello Link, I clicked on JOIN the conversation. The connection worked and I could see and hear him, but he could not see me (I had no camera) and he could not hear me.

I went to my Windows control panel for "Sound and Audio Devices" to a spot where Windows would "Test the Hardware". This had worked earlier when not using Hello, but this time the Windows Firewall asked if it should keep blocking the connection....I said NO. At this time my friend could then hear me. The firewall block never occurred again on later link-ups.

We could repeat our actions the next day but it worked only if he initiated the process. When I start the link we get no picture and no sound.
