Playing videos from YouTube on Firefox is always choppy, flickery, jittery, and jerky. The sound is OK. This does not happen on Internet Explorer. This started a few months ago. Could it have anything to do with downloading a newer version of FlashPlayer from Adobe? I'm running on an HP Pavilion Slimline desktop, Windows 7.

hello, maybe that's an issue with hardware acceleration - please try updating your graphics driver, or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in the firefox menu ≡ > options > advanced > general (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

YouTube normally uses the HTML5 media player and not the Flash plugin in current Firefox versions. You can check that via the right-click context menu in the player area. A Flash player always shows the Flash version that is used.

Yes, by right-clicking in the player area of the YouTube video, I learned it was using the HTML5 media player. YouTube says Firefox supports this technology, so I guess this was not the problem.

Thanks so much.

Thank you Philipp. I tried to find out how to "update my graphics driver", but I could not do it.

Therefore, I disabled "hardware acceleration" by following your advice, restarted Firefox, then tried YouTube videos again.

THEY ARE NOW BACK TO NORMAL! PERFECT!

Thank you very much Philipp.
