I have tried uninstalling firefox and reinstalling. Uninstalling and reinstalling silverlight. Clearing cookies and cache but nothing helps. Everytime I try to run a video it just has a blank screen. The issue is definitely firefox as the video plays just fine in internet explorer.

Does the plugin notification icon appear toward the left end of the address bar? It typically looks like a small, dark gray Lego block, and should display information about whether Silverlight is allowed on the page.

Any other unusual icons in that area?

I have not noticed anything of the sort...just a black screen. When get a chance later I was going to try with add ons disabled to see if that makes a difference.

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
    (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Hmmm...ok starting firefox in safe mode without addons WORKS... ok soo now I guess I have to figure out which of my add ons is interferring with the player

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure such extensions do not block content. There is security software that can interfere with loading content, so check that as well.

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing the problem by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.

Close and restart Firefox after each change via *"3-bar" menu button -> Exit (Power button)

  • Windows: File -> Exit
  • Mac: Firefox -> Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File -> Quit

Ok...wanted to keep you all updated. Things are working just fine now. It was indeed one of my addons (for pop up blocking) The one in question was adguard adblocker. So I have that one disabled still. Can I ask you all what do you use for an adblocker? I have a couple addons in use actually but would rather have one good one.
