I installed the latest version of FF 50.1.0, but it says an update is available for 49.2.0. I can't figure out how to how make FF forget about this old update.

I have tried reinstalling FF several times and the updates go smoothly, but after a while FF tries to auto update to an older previous version. I can't seem to figure out how to get the auto updating functionality to forget about trying to get me to update to the older version.

Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then Close Firefox.

Mac: Open the "Applications" folder.

Do Not remove the Profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder if there is one.

Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

This does not solve my problem because i have already done a clean install several times. The "old" update keeps coming back even after a clean update.

Hi

I think I know what this might be, but can you send through a screenshot of the update message you are getting?

If you can attach it as a response to this post, it would be really useful.

Maybe disable the Application Update Service Helper 1.0 (aushelper@mozilla.org) extension that shows in the the System Details list next to the question.

Create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
