Hello, fellow Firefox users.

I've been noticing a very strange thing with my firefox lately. For sake of addons I'm using version 55.0.3 (but for that matter the issue I will describe happens on 56 and even 57 version).

The problem: when I open the browser, the first request to any website takes several seconds (~10-15 seconds) to start loading properly. When it's done, other requests in new tabs are quick and instant. It's just the matter of very first page I try open in fresh browser instance.

Things that didn't work: - deleting all addons - deleting about:config data and using default values - deleteing 100% of files inside the profile dir, so firefox re-create the default ones - installing newer/older version of browser

What fixed the issue - running the safe-mode - creating new profile and copying 1:1 the old data (yup, that shouldn't work, yet it's working like a miracle) - opening browser, waiting several seconds (10-15), then everything seem to be loading fine

Now, the tricky part, after copying everything to new profile directory... after 24 hours, the same thing start happening on new profile.

Only firefox is affected obviously, it's like something is corrupting the profile after ~1 day usage. I already re-created the profile 3 times because of the issue. And it started happening since 1-2 weeks. I first thought it's my ISP issue, but not at all.

Anyone noticed such thing? Any ideas? I will attach screenshots or maybe even video file to show the issue.

could you go to the firefox menu ≡ > help ? > troubleshooting information page and take a look in the Accessibility section if accessibility is set to "true" there.

if yes, can you please copy & paste this whole section into a reply in the forum and see if the following fixes the performance problem: go to the firefox menu ≡ > options > privacy & security panel and under permissions check the setting to prevent accessibility services from accessing your browser.

At the moment (when I re-created the profile and use Firefox properly) it's

Activated false Prevent Accessibility 0

I will have to wait until tomorrow, when it becomes broken again, to test. But how should I activate it? Any more information?

Hi, if it works for now -- follow the guide above when it becomes broken again.

I can't locate such option in Firefox 55. Can it be done other way?

more options

Oh sorry, the layout is different in Pre-57 for 55, and this option was only added in 57. I'll try to find an alternate solution -- have you tried a Refresh? You can do this by going to about:support and clicking Refresh FIrefox.

more options

Refresh means that new profile is created, meaning it's fixing the issue. As i explained -- anything that involves creating new profile directory (or safe mode, that actually works probably like temporary new profile without any addons) fixes the issue. I can literally copy/paste everything from the old non-working profile directory to new directory and it's magically working fine.

So, it seems the add-ons cause the issue then?

more options

Not exactly, it looks like addons had nothing to do with this. Because I copied them over to new profile with 1:1 of exact settings as they were.

I also removed all of them / disabled all of them / for sake of testing -- addons simply don't interfere with the problem. No matter if they are there or not.

Wasted a couple of hours to nail down the problem.

And here it is ->

AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\profile.id\safebrowsing

This is the directory that breaks everything up. It's a daily updated list of blacklisted website that Firefox blocks, I guess. Now if I only knew why it breaks things after ~24 hours (basically when it re-download the list the 2nd time).

Once I delete it and let firefox re-download, everything works just fine.

Glad you solved your problem, sorry I couldn't find a working solution for you though.

Far from fixed, but im completely lost what could cause that.

For temporary fix i set up Task in Windows to delete this folder every 1 hour, so it gets automatically re-created.
