How do I prevent frequent plugin stalls ?

I'm running XP64 pro. The scripts on Yahoo will stall FF after a few minutes. Often I get the popup message that a plugin script has stalled and asks if I want to prevent seeing this again from the site. That's nice but every page on Yahoo is unique. So the stall happens on every page that isn't closed after a short while. The more stalls I get the slower my computer runs even though I use task manager to kill stalled processes. Then I have to reboot to clear out the FF remnants. Is there a way to kill remnants of stalled scripts without rebooting? Often FF crashes and asks me to send a report to Mozilla. Seems to me you guys should have a feature to enable extended logging for inclusion in crash reports. I have sent many requests to fix the problem. If you guys can't fix the root cause of the problem then can you at least provide a decent workaround so the memory doesn't get cluttered up with orphaned threads sucking up all my CPU power?

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Did this help?

While you are in safe mode;

Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration in Firefox. Since this feature was added to Firefox it has gradually improved but there are still a few glitches.

Just in case the above doesn't fix the problem, would you please take a look at this article :

After a script stalls in FireFox my entire computer runs very slowly until I reboot it. Task manager does not show any process consuming CPU resources, The computer just runs slower and slower the more times I have to stop a script in FireFox. Restarting FireFox does not help. The problem occurs in safe mode as well.

Hopefully the attached pictures or warning messages can be of some use to fix the problem. If they are insufficient then I suggest the development team add a lot more detail to the error messages. Also ask if the user wants to report this problem to Mozilla and give the option to have the error message automatically send a log file. At a minimum the error message should include a path pointing to a debug log detailing the error. The log could optionally include a link to send the log file to Mozilla.

I'm running XP 64 Pro. FireFox blocks these plugins and wont let me start or update them.... Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant Adobe acrobat plugin for FireFox 11.0.8 Silverlight plugin 5.1.40416.0 VLC web plugin 2.0.2

It would be really nice if you could tell me the name of the processes to kill in Task Manager so I wouldn't have to reboot so often. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated !  :-)

You may want to try the 32 bit version.

fyi: June is the end of support for XP

Thanks for suggesting to try a 32 bit version. But of which did you mean? XP or FireFox?

I'm currently running the 32bit build of FireFox version 52.7.2 XP64 pro is sooo much faster than XP 32 bit. So it is not likely I'll be downgrading to 32 bit XP even if I did have the CDs for it, which may not be too easy to purchase this late in the game. If there is a 64 bit build of FireFox available I would be happy to try that. Is there a link for it?

Can anyone say which thread process to kill in Task Manager after I already stopped the troublesome browser script, and exited FireFox too, and then the computer is still running slow?

How can I send a request to the FF developer team to add more details, and logging, to their browser warning messages which I posted previously?

Win64 Firefox any version (including current at www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ ) will only run on 64-bit Windows 7, 8, 10 so even if the WinXP or Vista user had the 64-bit version of OS you can still only run 32-bit Firefox anyways.

Since you have a 64-bit CPU if you were use or dual boot a 64-bit Linux ditro then you would be able to use 64-bit Firefox.

Firefox 52 ESR is pretty much almost at End Of Life (Fx 52.9.0esr on June 26) and 53.0 and later does not run on the EOL WinXP and Vista so there will be little reason for Mozilla to add anything for Firefox 52 ESR at this point.

As I said Firefox 53.0 and newer including 59.0.1 requires Windows 7, 8, 10. This is why you are served 52.7.2esr.

The Firefox 52.7.2 esr is the current version for Fx 52 ESR. Fx 52.8.0esr will be out on May 9th.

I downloaded the latest from the link which Pkshadow shared. The problem remains, still crashes and stalls. Note the fresh screen shots of FF problems attached to this post I can't over emphasize the need for a good log file to solve problems. Hopefully the upcoming release will include advanced logging.

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

At the point where FireFox stalls or crashes, as shown in the screen shots previously attached, would be a great place to add a comment about typing In the address bar, about:crashes<enter>. Also would be a good place to add a comment warning about third party drivers being rejected by FireFox, and a link to identify the list of external drivers being rejected.

Thanks for all the support each of you provided. I really like the timely responses from the team :-) Kudos.
