I have been very successful adding a page shortcut to my homepage until today. Now I can't add a page shortcut from any website including this one. Is there a setting that I'm missing? I have Samsung S8 active which is new to me. KAS

I have discovered the problem. The home screen was locked which prevented anything from being attached to it. I didn't know how to delete the question so I answered it. Maybe it will help someone else. KAS
