Thunderbird (68.6.0 32bits) / Win 8.1 64 bits in English. Only the specials characters (char accentuated in French and German -- öüèàé -- are displayed with replacement characters like ampersand, euro sign, etc. In English the problem touch the apostrophes and some spaces). I'm able to correct the display problem in one of the languages but then the display in the other languages is no more correct. This occurs in both text and html mail. I tried all the tweaking between unicode and western sub subjected but could not fix the problem. It's very annoying and the only issue I ever had with Thunderbird in 15 years; older version didn't have this problem. Marc

Do you mean that accented characters don't appear correctly in composed messages or received messages? There is an issue with Yahoo-based accounts where messages sent through those services with such characters and double spaces appear to the recipient to have question marks replacing the characters.

This happen only in received message and not even all of them. For example yesterday I defined Unicode in the advanced options tab. The messages in English and German are OK but I just received one in French which completely messed up. So I had to go to View --> Text Encoding' and choose Western to get a correct display. The problem is that the next mail I'll get in English or in German will be messed up. I'm permanently juggling between encoding standards. This is a bit annoying. I don't know which menagerie my correspondent is using (I'll ask him and keep you informed). Thanks Marc
