When I open Thunderbird all of the fonts on the GUI are ragged and unreadable. If I restart the program in troubleshooting mode everything is fine. The only way that I can use Thunderbird presently is to enter troubleshooting mode at each startup.

If hardware acceleration is enabled in Preferences/General/Indexing, disable it, then restart TB and see if the fonts are OK. Acceleration is disabled in safe/troubleshoot mode.
