Why can't i change where to download files and is there a limit to the download folder aside from the C drive itself?

I tried to change the download folder for Firefox inside "settings", and Firefox showed that the change did take, even after opening and closing the program again, but trying to download a file leaves me in the old folder again, as if Firefox didn't take what it showed it took. Also, Firefox keeps crashing when I try to download to the downloads folder. Not sure why. Clearing a few items lets me download again, but then, it will crash if I dare keep going. Is there a limit to how much can be in the downloads folder aside from the C drive itself? My C drive is showing 84GB free, in the blue, not red, so what gives?

I have also been unable to change the Downloads folder. Are you able to save to a different folder?

As far as crashes are concerned, see these articles.

I had to delete some stuff from the downloads folder to get firefox to stop crashing when trying to download something. It did eventually switch over the a new download folder I had wanted.
