Firefox version update
This morning I just noticed that my Firefox version is 114.0.1 32 bit and I know my system is 64 bit. I downloaded 64 bit and installed it but when I open, it has reverted back to 32 bit. The version number is still the same. Is this a problem please? I am running Windows 10.

I notice in the System Details that Firefox is started from the location used for 32-bit.
Do you still have a 64-bit Firefox or only the 32-bit version ?
- (64-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
- (32-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
You can download the current release and if possible uninstall the current release and make sure that the Mozilla Firefox in both location isn't present. You may have to reboot after removing the Firefox folders to verify that they do not get restored.
You can find the full installer of the current Firefox release (114.0.1) in all languages and all operating systems here:
Hello Cor-el,
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
When I go into Firefox Help, the version is 114.0.1 (32 bit). If I look at Windows About, I get "64-bit operating system, x64-based processor".
As I said, I downloaded the 64 bit version of Firefox but it reverted to 32 bit.
It's important that I do not lose my present profile so I don't know what to do next or what to delete. I have got the latest release but it's the 64 that I wanted to install.
Thanks for helping.
Can you confirm that Firefox 32-bit is installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\" ? On Windows, uninstalling via Programs is usually best as that (should) cleans up the Windows Registry, especially since you are changing to another installation folder.
If you have Firefox installed in "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\" as well then maybe best is to uninstall this version as well. After uninstalling you should check whether there are leftover files and remove both folders to ensure proper re-installation.
- (64-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
- (32-bit Firefox) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
You can remove compatibility.ini in the profile folder in "AppData\Roaming" with Firefox closed to make Firefox use this profile.
Primary location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).
- C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>
umm - I've looked at Add/Remove Programs and I have 2.........
Mozilla Firefox (x64 en-GB) 218 MB Mozilla Firefox (x86 en-US) 207 MB
both with the date of 11/06/23
I'm afraid I really don't understand what you mean after this.......
Should I uninstall one of these? (I prefer the GB version)
Since you have both 32-bit and 64-bit version installed, chances are whatever method you are using to start Firefox is pointing to the 32-bit Firefox .exe, say a desktop launcher shortcut.
Yes, I have an icon on the bottom status line. When I update Firefox, the program puts a new icon on the screen as a shortcut. I delete this and continue to use the one on the status bar. Should I be using the screen shortcut and moving it to the status bar, then delete the one presently on the status bar?
