Ever time I start Firefox I get an AVG resident shield alert on this file Profiles\\dlmgqhum.default;

I have added to AVG exceptions and tried to(AVG) ignore but still get it ever time I start Firefox....

Can I just delete the folder and all it's files?

NO you can't just delete that folder and all its' files. That folder contains all your personal data, including passwords, bookmarks, and all customizations you made to Firefox.

Doesn't that AVG message give you a longer file path to the exact file that has the data that AVG finds objectionable? Something like a .rdf file or a .sqlite file at the end of the message?

Yes it is a cookies.sqlite file

Can I just delete it?

more options

Yes, that file you can delete, if you wish - with Firefox closed.

It is better not to let other programs deal with files in the Firefox profile folder.
Tracking cookies (cookies are just text files with some data in it) are not worth the trouble of having to deal with corrupted files caused by cleanup software that is working properly.

I am not sure what you are saying here..I just want to stop the error from popping up ever time I open Firefox... Will deleting the ////..cookies.sqlite (from Realmedia) fix the problem...I will uninstall realmedia if that will fix the problem and is not needed by Firefox....

more options

AVG is very sensitive to such cookies and if you want to avoid such alerts from AVG then you can disable the check for tracking cookies. Letting other software do such cleanup things will only lead at one time to corrupted files in the Firefox Profile Folder or other mysterious problems in Firefox that are hard to diagnose.

The SQLite database file cookies.sqlite stores all the cookies, so if you delete that file or let AVG do that then you lose all cookies, including settings stored by website that you may want to retain.

OK I think I understand and will try to stop AVG from checking cookies..

cookie with problem is from RealMedia...do you know if that is the same software as RealPlayer...

I may just delete (uninstall) RealMedia as I don't think I ever use it...

more options

The Real Player plays Real Media. If you think you don't need it, un-install the Real Player.

If you are using AVG 2011, open the AVG program, open the Tools menu, select Advanced Settings. Scroll down the list to Resident Shield and click on it. Make sure Scan for Tracking Cookies is unchecked. Click on Okay. The procedure should be similar for AVG 9.
