keep getting a pop up menu asking if I want to restore previous session. Feels like I am using a test site for firefox vs the full version I was accustomed to

when I sign on it's not the clean interface I was accustomed to. There is a pop up window asking if I want to restore previous session. Also - really miss having easy access to my bookmarks - feels like everything is now double hidden

You probably have Firefox configured to show tabs from last time. There's a picture here (second one down): Restore previous session - Configure when Firefox shows your most recent tabs and windows you can compare with your current setting.

All you need to do is to change it to one of the other options.
