I was running FF 8.something. My mac is running OS 10.6.8. Firefox locked while checking history and didn't subsequently load after doing a forced quit and a reboot. I updated to FF 9.0.1 and it locks up while loading. I also updated plugins, notably, Silverlight and Adobe.

What do I try next?

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
