Can you set your bookmarks so that when you click on one it opens a new tab instead of a side panel?

When I click on a bookmark it opens a side panel on the existing window. I find this annoying. I'm looking for any help on setting my bookmarks so they open their own tab the way favorites work in Internet Explorer.

Possibly a matter of unchecking in the bookmark properties "Load this bookmark in the sidebar" (check box is either accessible from the bookmarks sidebar/bookmarks buttons dropdown menu by right clicking on the bookmark-->Properties, or from the Library (CTRL+SHIFT+B to open) by clicking on the "more" widget at the bottom of the window.

Looking more closely, I found two bookmark icons, one with a tiny triangle on its right side and one without such. The first produces a drop-down menu and the other a side panel. Problem solved!
