can not update Shockwave flash

Outdated version - told to update. Follow update instructions. Restart firefox. Check the plugin which remains the same - outdated version, etc.

Thanks for the response cor-el. I looked and I have that version. Will just continue to check.

The Flash 11.3.300.257 version is the latest available for Mac, so if you have that version then it is OK.

There only has been released a Flash 113.300.262 update for the Windows platform.

So it looks that the plugin check page doesn't take your platform into account.
