The text I'm entering on a particular forum is not being checked for spelling errors. A member of that forum said it didn't have a spell checker and he used an add on for his browser which was internet explorer. Is there a similar add-on for Firefox?

Thanks. Jim B.

Spell checking is built into Firefox. Normally, spell checking is done automatically. If not, right-click the box where you type your message and choose Check Spelling. For more details, read the following article:

Thanks for the quick reply. All of the requirements in the above article apply to the forum in question. however, I noticed the following: "Not all locales come with a dictionary installed due to licensing reasons." Could this be the problem? When I right click on the box, I see the check spelling option has a check mark next to it but it doesn't seem to be working.

The English (United States) version has a dictionary installed by default. Regardless of your Firefox language, if you want more dictionaries, the aforementioned article explains how to add them.

Does the forum in question have a Reply box that is accessible to unregistered users? If so, could you post a link to the page?
