Firefox is opening incorrectly, the tab bar is tripled, and many of my add-ons are then disabled. Any suggestions?

How can I get firefox to open correctly? It will sometimes, but most of the time it doesn't. I have been having this issue since version 19, but am now on the most current, and it is still doing it. I almost gave up on ff completely when nothing worked after the 19 update, but it seemed to get better with 20, but it still seems to be having trouble.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can check for problems with the localstore.rdf file.

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end side of the Search Bar ("Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to check if there is a compatibility update available.

If this hasn't helped then also try to delete the addons.sqlite file.

Following the instructions to go into safe mode, default mode, then turning off application acceleration seems to have worked. Thank you good sir for your help.

If Safe Mode works well, but you find that problems resume when you restart normally, try disabling all nonessential extensions. By nonessential, I mean you could survive 24 hours without them. Hopefully your most critical extensions are not a problem, and you will eventually discover the problem extension(s) as you re-enable the others when needed.

To manage extensions:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
