I am thoroughly confused. I'm getting a new computer, and figured that I should update to the latest version of Thunderbird so that I can migrate my data to that version on the new computer. I go to the Thunderbird website and see that the latest version is 24. But when I go to Help -> Check for Updates in Thunderbird, it tells me that the latest version is 3.1.10! I thought the message might be in error, so I proceeded with the update, but it did indeed install a version numbered 3.1.10 (and 5 minutes after that, Check for Updates tell me that there is a LATER version, 3.1.20!). I did Google searches and looked through the Thunderbird FAQ, and I could not find out what is going on with Thunderbird version numbers. I thought it might have to do with the fact that I'm running Windows XP, but I checked the system requirements for version 24 and XP is listed as an option. Why do I get a version 3 when version 24 is the latest?

Which version are you upgrading from?

I don't remember exactly what version it was. I believe it was 1 point something. It was less than 3, I can tell you that.

Upgrading an ancient version such as 1 or 2 evidently only takes you to version 3, so just download the full installer for 24 from the link at the top of this page (click the mozilla logo) and install it over version 3.
