There would have been other ways for a larger number of messages, but you don't seem to be interested anymore.

If it's just a few messages you can forward them to your Yahoo account.
It was a lot of them. But that is what I did. I will not be using Thunderbird again.

Set-up your Yahoo account as IMAP account and upload the messages to the server.
For your existing POP account set the option to leave messages on the server.
You can then decide which account you want to keep.
